Why Effective Communication Skills Are Important

Communication has been evolving since primitive ages to the current IT world. From the elementary verbal communication, to hardcopy writing, and to the current softcopy typing. I believe that it is the effective communication skills which our ancestors developed, gave humans leverage against the animals.and ensured the survival of human species.

Verbal communication has always been an obstacle for me since young. I took ES2007S to learn about the secrets and techniques of communicating effective, as I foresee that I will need it later on when I embark into the working life. In the business world, it is very important to have your messages and ideas deliver across to your boss, managers, colleagues and customers, and acknowledge by them. It is one of the key points to achieve success. If they do not understand what you are trying to say, or misinterpret what you say, one may lose a business deal or lose his job. Other than being an effective sender, we also need to be an effective listener. Being able to decode what our boss, managers or customers want, so we will be able to fulfill the tasks and requirements requested by them.

Communication skills are also very important to secure and enhance the relationship and bonding between family members, friends and lifetime partner. Communication is the fundamental to maintain a relationship. Without communication, one will not understand what the other is feeling. Resulting in the destruction of family and friendship. With the help of effective communication, we can resolve the misunderstanding and strengthen the bonds between each other.

In conclusion, to be equipped with a set of effective communication skills will help me a lot as I embrace myself into the next step of life :)

  1. What's up Jun Wen!

Bingo! We all took ES2007s so that we can unravel the secrets and techniques of effective communication!

Without communication, or rather, with bad communication, destruction of family and friendship, as over-exaggerating as it might sound, can happen. A bad communication between two toddlers lead to crying, between two teenagers lead to a fight and between two leaders of state, a war. Therefore, we should never underestimate the power of ineffective communication, or more importantly,we should embrace and strive towards a habit of effective communication for a cohesive future.

So I guess since I had concurred and pretty much understand your post, we had effectively communicated! Now that's a first step for us.... haha

  2. Hey Jun Wen!

I am glad that you are taking up the first step to improve upon effective communication! Communication doesn't come easily I do admit and at times, it seems more of a frustration rather than an easy process.

However, communication can be improved simply by mere practice! I am glad for you at your spirit in practising and we will able to strive to learn better in this module! (:

    cheers!

  3. Hey JW!

Kudos to the fighting spirit! Indeed hard work would definitely bring about results. As mentioned in Ally's post, a recent film, The King's Speech, is an excellent representation of the never say die spirit. Perhaps it would be of an inspiration for you to take a look at it.

Also I agree that communication is very vital be it in the business world or even between family and friends. Fights and misunderstandings occur all the time, mostly due to miscommunication from the parties involved. Of course, there are definitely other reasons involved which we must factor in as well. Sometimes it could just be due to the incompatibility of working styles! However, it is true that as we proceed on with our journey in life, being equipped with effective communication skills could indeed make our lives a whole lot better. Trod on ahead and never give up!

    Cheers!
